Founded in 1783, the City of Fayetteville began its historic
journey—one that would continue to integrate visions of the future with
elements of the past. Forged by uniting the small settlements of Cross
Creek and Campbellton, the city of Fayetteville continues to exemplify the spirit
of growth and change. It is now North Carolina’s sixth largest city
with a population exceeding 120,000 people.
Named after the
Revolutionary War hero Marquis de Lafayette, the city continues its
close association with the US Military. Fayetteville is located just
miles from Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base—which form one of the largest
military complexes in the world.
The Historic District of
Fayetteville is a testament to the city’s proud history. The area is
host to a plethora of cultural activities, art galleries, unique
eateries and historic buildings. Remaining grounded in its historical
roots while combining growth, revitalization, and providing a home for
cultural atmosphere is just another way Fayetteville continues to exude
its time-honored revolutionary spirit. |
